What types of behavioral mental health programs does Meritain cover?

Mental health care is a crucial component of Meritain Health’s coverage, encompassing a variety of treatment services. It’s important to note that, per the Affordable Care Act, health insurance companies, including Meritain Health, must provide coverage for mental health treatment.2 While the specific scope of coverage can vary depending on the individual policy and the location, Meritain Insurance commonly includes:
  • Residential Treatment: Care at a residential mental health facility for immersive, continuous treatment.
  • Outpatient Services: Treatment sessions that don’t require an overnight stay, such as those with therapists or counselors.
  • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP): Structured, regular treatment for serious mental health conditions that fall between weekly sessions and hospitalization.
  • Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP): Day programs providing extensive treatment for several hours on multiple days per week.
  • Group Therapy: Group-led discussions providing a community setting for shared healing.
  • Individual Therapy: Personal sessions targeting specific mental health challenges.
  • Family Therapy: Treatment involving family members to strengthen support systems and relationships.
  • Behavioral Therapies: Effective approaches like CBT and DBT for a variety of mental health issues.
  • Substance Use Disorder Treatment: Care addressing co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders.

It’s important to consult with Meritain Health directly to understand your particular policy’s coverage. Pre-authorization may be necessary for certain services.

Will Meritain cover my residential treatment stay?

Meritain Health insurance typically covers residential mental health treatment. However, coverage details and prerequisites can significantly vary per your policy:

  • Policy Details: Examine your benefits booklet or coverage documents to understand what types of treatment, including residential care, are covered.
  • Pre-authorization: Often, a plan will require pre-authorization, meaning residential treatment must be confirmed as medically necessary in advance.
  • Provider Network: To maximize coverage, ensure the facility is within Meritain Health’s preferred provider network.
  • Deductibles and Copayments: Be aware that, even with coverage, you may be accountable for certain deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance.
  • Direct Contact: The most reliable information comes from contacting Meritain Health directly for specifics on your coverage and any pre-authorization needed.
  • Verification by Cornerstone: We can reach out to Meritain Health on your behalf to clarify the specifics of your coverage and what it includes.

Note that mental health and substance use disorder services are generally covered under most insurance plans following the Affordable Care Act, comparable to medical/surgical services, although details can vary by policy.

How long will Meritain cover a stay in residential treatment?

The duration of coverage for a stay in a residential treatment facility under Meritain Health insurance is subject to several factors:

  • Your specific Meritain Health plan coverage details.
  • The medical necessity as assessed by healthcare providers and authorized by Meritain Health.
  • Your progress and any required reassessments during treatment.
  • Limits specific to your plan on the number of days or type of residential treatment program.

For precise details about your coverage, it’s recommended to connect directly with Meritain Health or to review your policy information.

How soon can I get into a residential treatment facility?

The timeframe to begin treatment at a residential mental health center with Meritain Insurance can vary based on several logistical aspects:

  • Verifying your insurance benefits and what is covered for residential treatment.
  • The necessity of pre-authorization or a healthcare provider referral, as per your Meritain plan.
  • Current availability at the residential treatment center you’re considering.
  • Potential waiting periods stipulated by your Meritain Health policy.

To ascertain the most accurate timing, contact Meritain Health for benefit verification and pre-authorization procedures and consult the residential treatment center regarding their intake schedule.
