FAQs About Supportive Housing

Get answers to the most commonly asked questions about our Supportive Housing Program.

What is the difference between Supportive Housing and Sober Living?

Supportive Housing and Sober Living are two distinct types of environments that cater to individuals in different stages of recovery with various needs.

Supportive Housing provides a highly structured setting with integrated therapeutic services, including professional mental health support, personalized treatment plans, and comprehensive aftercare.

This option is ideal for those who require a higher level of care and support.

On the other hand, Sober Living provides a more independent living situation with fewer structured supports, making it suitable for individuals who are further along in their recovery journey and capable of managing more autonomy.

Both options aim to foster long-term sobriety, but they cater to different levels of recovery readiness and personal circumstances.

What is included in the Supportive Housing Program at Cornerstone?

In addition to meeting the requirements of their respective treatment programs (such as PHP, IOP, etc.), the Supportive Housing Program includes comfortable, sober living accommodations integrated with therapeutic support.

Residents follow a structured schedule that provides for various therapies such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing.

Along with treatment, the program emphasizes life skills development such as job readiness, financial management, and everyday practical tasks like grocery shopping.

Group Therapy, Family Counseling, and Experiential Therapies such as art or music are also available to help residents recover comprehensively and holistically.

Community activities further support residents in developing a sense of belonging and mutual support, which is essential for long-term sobriety.

Who is eligible for the Supportive Housing Program?

The Supportive Housing Program is designed for individuals who are dealing with substance abuse and/or alcohol addiction and are actively participating in our Partial Hospitalization or Intensive Outpatient Programs (including the less intense Outpatient Program).

Eligibility for this program includes those who may not have safe or stable housing due to addiction issues, providing them with a secure environment where they can focus on recovery.

The program is tailored to meet the needs of adults who are ready to engage in a structured recovery process, with personalized care plans that address the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of addiction.

This supportive environment is important for individuals who require a stable living situation to complement their ongoing treatment and support their journey toward long-term sobriety.

Does insurance cover the Supportive Housing Program at Cornerstone?

Insurance often covers the costs associated with Supportive Housing for drug and alcohol treatment.

You will need to pay an initial deductible as specified by your insurance plan.

After meeting your deductible, your insurance benefits will contribute towards the cost, covering a significant portion of the services provided.

While some insurance plans may cover most expenses, others require a deductible that varies by policy.

We encourage you to complete our insurance verification form to learn more about your health insurance coverage.

Our admissions team is here to simplify the process and will take the initiative to contact your insurance provider directly to clarify the specifics of your coverage.

How does the Supportive Housing Program support long-term recovery?

The Supportive Housing Program is a crucial part of the recovery process for residents, providing them with a stable environment that complements their ongoing treatment.

The program integrates aftercare services to bridge the transition from intensive treatment to independent living, ensuring continuity of care that is essential for maintaining sobriety and reducing the risk of relapse.

Additionally, the program fosters community support through regular group meetings and social activities among residents.

This community is important for emotional support and accountability.

The program also focuses on developing essential life skills such as financial management, job readiness, and self-care, empowering residents to achieve independence and manage their recovery successfully in the long term.

According to a study by Polcin and Henderson (2008) in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, supportive housing programs that include both structured support and independent living skills are effective in promoting long-term sobriety and recovery.4

This facility is different from any other rehab that I have been to. I have had many failed attempts at getting and staying sober since I was 16. Mostly due to a majority of the treatment centers that I had went to not having much help with aftercare. They would get you clean for however long the stay was and then release you with no tools or foundation to build on. Cornerstone immersed me in the 12 step recovery program. The PHP groups were extremely therapeutic for me. They took me to Recovery meetings every day of the week. They have extremely nice houses to go back to while you’re not at the clinic. Most importantly, they set me up with an aftercare plan that put me on a path to success. Before I left they made sure that I was set up with a sober living, a job, and also made sure that I had made good progress in my 12 steps. After I got out I was sent to IOP, and every week they have a navigator who makes sure that you are doing well and helps you with any obstacles you may be facing. All of the staff truly cares about every individual who comes through this place. Unlike a lot of treatment centers, cornerstone is not in it for the money. Thanks to them I have been able to maintain long term sobriety. I am the happiest I have been in my entire life. I will forever have gratitude for cornerstone and to all of the staff that helped me, and continues to help on my recovery journey.

I watched my loved one struggle with an addiction to alcohol for over fifteen years. In 2022 he was at the worse I had ever seen. I suggested a multitude of things to quit, however, I knew that he needed help and was convinced that this was not going to end well. I had seen the program of recovery outlined at Cornerstone and convinced my loved one to make the 1,800-mile drive across the country. It saved his life. I hardly recognize this man today. From hustling me to pay for "just one more night" at a hotel, to having his own apartment in a year is a miracle. Cornerstone provided him a safe place and provided every tool possible including inpatient treatment, A.A., therapy and counseling, IOP and helped with his transition into the mainstream of life. I’ll be forever grateful.

this place saved my life 100%. the whole staff genuinely cared about me and were only trying to help me grow. i have confidence again and goals to achieve. coming from someone who was very suicidal and a bad alcoholic before treatment, i’ve completely done a 180°. i loved my house managers lacey and jazz who were both extremely important to my recovery. my primary therapist Lori was such a sweetheart and i could tell she genuinely cared about my life and wanted to help in any way she could. i feel like i’ve finally found my place in this world and most importantly myself and that’s all thanks to God and Cornerstone.
