SPECIALIZED SUPPORT FOR WOMEN

Women’s experiences with addiction and recovery are greatly influenced by gender-specific factors such as societal roles, trauma, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Recognizing this, it is important to have specialized support systems in place for women’s addiction treatment.

Tailored counseling for women often includes trauma-informed care, acknowledging the high prevalence of trauma in women with substance use disorders. Peer groups for women provide a safe space to share experiences and offer mutual understanding and support, which is essential in building resilience and promoting recovery.

Research has shown that women benefit significantly from gender-focused treatment programs that address their unique psychological, social, and physiological needs. Studies also highlight the effectiveness of women-centered programs in improving treatment outcomes and enhancing coping strategies.1

These specialized support systems, including counseling, peer support groups, and holistic therapies, are vital in providing a comprehensive and empathetic approach to addiction treatment for women, addressing their specific challenges and strengths on the road to recovery.

ADDRESSING THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF WOMEN IN RECOVERY

Women face more significant stigma and judgment related to substance abuse, which can make them hesitant to seek help.2 Treatment programs designed for women provide a safe, confidential space to address these concerns.

Empowering women in their recovery is essential, as many have faced disempowerment. Treatment for women may focus on developing self-efficacy and life skills to help them regain control and build a foundation for a substance-free life.

Women may have different triggers for relapse compared to men, such as relationship problems and negative emotions. Treatment programs for women develop relapse prevention strategies that specifically address these gender-related differences.

Therapies Offered in Our Residential Rehab

community support in addiction treatment

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and restructuring negative thought patterns that influence behavior and emotions. It operates on the principle that changing maladaptive thinking leads to changes in behavior and emotional regulation. CBT is a goal-oriented approach widely used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including anxietydepression, and substance use disorders. It teaches individuals coping strategies for dealing with challenging situations.

CBT therapy

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that emphasizes the psychosocial aspects of treatment. Its foundational principle is the synthesis of opposites. Through acceptance and change strategies, DBT aims to help individuals learn to manage emotions, improve relationships, and live more mindfully. DBT is particularly effective for treating personality disorders, such as borderline personality disorder, and conditions involving significant emotional dysregulation.

individual therapy for heroin addiction treatment

Individual therapy (for addiction) involves one-on-one sessions between a client and a therapist, focusing on the underlying issues and behaviors contributing to substance use. It provides a private setting for individuals to explore their emotions, triggers, and past experiences that influence their addiction. This personalized approach enables the development of customized strategies for coping and recovery, making it a fundamental aspect of effective addiction treatment programs.

FAQs About Our Women's Residential Treatment Program

Get answers to the most commonly asked questions about our treatment program for women:

Cornerstone offers co-educational programs, ensuring that male and female participants reside in separate accommodations throughout their stay.

Despite our co-educational approach, we are highly experienced in addressing the unique needs of women and have achieved a notable success rate in providing effective treatment tailored to their specific requirements.

Our residential drug and alcohol treatment program typically lasts 30-45 days and focuses on providing comprehensive treatment services for women.

After completing this phase, individuals often transition to a less intensive level of care, continuing their recovery in an environment that meets their needs.

Our continuum of care includes supportive housing and various programs such as Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and Virtual Treatment options, all designed to support women’s unique paths to recovery.

This approach ensures a smooth transition and provides sustained support at every stage of recovery, demonstrating our commitment to women’s long-term well-being and empowerment in their healing journey.

Does residential rehab work?

Residential drug rehab is a fundamental aspect of drug and alcohol treatment and is highly effective for individuals struggling with addiction.

According to findings in the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, over 60% of individuals who engage in residential treatment for substance abuse and complete an inpatient drug and alcohol program report achieving and maintaining sobriety for one year or more.4

This statistic highlights the critical importance of choosing a dedicated alcohol and drug rehab program that offers a supportive and structured environment essential for overcoming addiction and fostering a sustainable recovery journey.

Residential treatment and inpatient treatment both offer care for mental health or addiction issues, but they differ in setting and intensity.

Residential treatment occurs in a home-like environment and is suited for longer stays, focusing on therapy and community support.

Inpatient treatment, on the other hand, is provided in a more clinical, hospital-like setting for short-term, intensive care to stabilize acute conditions.

While residential treatment offers a more relaxed atmosphere for extended support, inpatient treatment involves close medical monitoring and is designed for quick and intense intervention.

The choice between the two depends on the severity of the person’s condition and their specific needs.

Long-term residential treatment, also known as inpatient treatment, differs significantly from outpatient services in its approach to addiction recovery.

In a residential program, individuals live at the treatment facility, receiving 24/7 support and intensive care. This environment is particularly suited for those with severe addictions, as it provides a structured setting away from daily triggers and stressors.

Conversely, outpatient rehab allows individuals to live at home and maintain their daily routines, attending treatment sessions at scheduled times. This flexibility makes it a viable option for those with milder addictions or substantial work and family commitments.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the choice between residential and outpatient treatment should be based on the severity of addiction, personal health needs, and life circumstances, underscoring the importance of a personalized approach to recovery.5

Cornerstone provides a residential or inpatient program where individuals stay at our facilities during treatment. This program is particularly beneficial for those with significant addiction issues.

Testimonials

What ARIZONA clients and treatment professionals say about Cornerstone

This facility is unlike any other rehab I have attended. Despite many attempts to stay sober since I was 16, previous centers lacked effective aftercare, leaving me without the necessary tools to build a foundation. At Cornerstone, I was fully immersed in the 12-step program and benefited greatly from the PHP groups and daily recovery meetings. They provided excellent housing and set me up with a comprehensive aftercare plan, including sober living, a job, and progress in my 12 steps. After leaving, I continued with IOP, supported weekly by a navigator who helped me overcome obstacles. The caring staff at Cornerstone is dedicated to individual success, and thanks to them, I have achieved long-term sobriety and happiness. I am forever grateful to Cornerstone and its team for their ongoing support in my recovery journey.

I watched my loved one struggle with an addiction to alcohol for over fifteen years. In 2022 he was at the worse I had ever seen. I suggested a multitude of things to quit, however, I knew that he needed help and was convinced that this was not going to end well. I had seen the program of recovery outlined at Cornerstone and convinced my loved one to make the 1,800-mile drive across the country. It saved his life. I hardly recognize this man today. From hustling me to pay for "just one more night" at a hotel, to having his own apartment in a year is a miracle. Cornerstone provided him a safe place and provided every tool possible including inpatient treatment, A.A., therapy and counseling, IOP and helped with his transition into the mainstream of life. I’ll be forever grateful.
